Between «the aircraft has landed» and «the cargo has left» lie a few hours the client usually knows nothing about. Here is what happens in that time at the terminal in Warsaw.
Receiving and reconciliation
The cargo comes off the aircraft, is weighed, and is reconciled against the air waybill. A weight discrepancy beyond tolerance is not a detail: it stops the consignment until it is resolved, because customs value follows from it.
Breaking down
The consolidated pallet is broken into individual shipments. This is where most packaging damage comes to light, and where it is recorded photographically — a report drawn up later is worth almost nothing.
Customs procedures
Then the choice of regime: clearance on the spot, or opening transit. Because the terminal, the broker and the carrier are in our hands alone, there is no handover between companies between these steps, and so no day lost to coordination.
Departure
The cargo is loaded onto a truck for its destination. From that moment GPS monitoring is running, and the client can see the movement without asking a manager.
